How to Choose the Right Plants for Your Home Garden

March 22, 2026

Choosing the right plants for your home garden can feel a bit overwhelming—there are so many options at the local nursery, and every plant tag promises beautiful results. But how do you know what will actually thrive in your unique space?

First, take a look at your yard throughout the day. Notice which areas get full sun, partial shade, or stay mostly cool and shaded. Most plants have specific light preferences, and matching them to your garden’s microclimates is the first step to success. If a plant loves sun and you tuck it into a shady corner, it’s likely to struggle, no matter how much attention you give it.

Next, think about your soil. Is it sandy and drains quickly, or does it stay damp after a rain? A simple test with a trowel and some water

Overwhelmed by Garden Choices? How to Find Your Focus

March 20, 2026

Does stepping into your garden sometimes feel more intimidating than relaxing? You’re not alone! Between endless plant options, design choices, and shifting advice from TV shows, YouTube, neighbors, and garden centers, it’s easy to feel stuck before you even dig the first hole.

Maybe you want a beautiful, low-maintenance landscape, but aren’t sure where to start. Or perhaps you head to the nursery, excited for spring, but end up coming home empty-handed (or with a cart full of random plants you’re not sure how to combine). All this uncertainty can suck the joy out of gardening—when it should be the space that brings you peace and pride!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a deep breath. The confusion is totally normal, especially in

Why Your Garden Feels Like a Chore (and How to Make it a Joy Again)

March 19, 2026

If your garden feels more like another item on your to-do list than the peaceful escape you envisioned, you’re in good company. I’ve talked with so many South Central Pennsylvania homeowners—especially women—who admit to feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or even a little guilty when it comes to maintaining their outdoor spaces.

Maybe you started the season with big dreams and plans, only to find yourself facing weeds that seem to double overnight, plants that don’t look like they did on the tags, or beds that never feel done. Life gets busy, and suddenly your garden is staring back, a daily reminder of what you “should” be doing. It’s easy to feel frustrated or to compare yourself to neighbors who seem to have it all

Elizabeth has done an amazing job helping me keep my potted hibiscus alive and thriving. I’ve sent her photos and descriptions of issues, and she always responds with stellar advice. Her recommendations during an aphid invasion worked really well.

When my hibiscus developed white fungus on its leaves, Elizabeth helped me through it right away. She also gave me great guidance on fertilizing and trimming. Thanks to Elizabeth, I now have a very healthy hibiscus.

We live in the hi-desert near Palm Springs and our mature Cape Honeysuckle suddenly lost all its foliage overnight—going from lush green to just sticks. In desperation, I called Beth. She recommended stopping watering for a couple of weeks to let the roots dry out, then switching to a slow drip system. She explained everything clearly and made it easy to understand.

After following Elizaeth’s advice, our Cape Honeysuckle completely revived within weeks and is now lush with foliage and even a few flowers. Elizabeth is a miracle worker—she brought our plant back from the dead from over 3,000 miles away with just a few pictures and a phone call. I’m so glad we called her instead of tearing it out and starting over.
